Local Tour Guides Wanted For The 2027 Season

Undara Lava Tube Tours is looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to join our tour guiding team for the 2027 season. We welcome applications from people at all stages of life and are particularly interested in hearing from semi-retired or retired people living on the Atherton Tablelands or in the Cairns region who may be looking for flexible, seasonal work. People who would enjoy sharing the geology, wildlife and stories of the Undara Lava Tubes with visitors from around Australia and the world. This does not need to be a traditional full-time role. Opportunities may include:

• Part-time or full-time seasonal work
• Relief guiding and occasional fill-in shifts
• Short-term blocks of several weeks
• Longer placements of up to several months

Our aim is to build a reliable group of guides who can be called upon throughout the touring season. The 2027 season begins on 1 May, with training to be provided during 2026 alongside experienced, established guides. Please note due to the climate and access, Undara Lava Tube Tours operate seasonally from 1 May to 30 October.

Working With Undara Lava Tube Tours

Undara Lava Tube Tours is owned and operated by the Terry family, who also operate Cobbold Gorge Tours. The Undara Lava Tubes are located within Undara Volcanic National Park, approximately 275 kilometres southwest of Cairns. Our 3 hour tours are hosted by passionate guides committed to providing visitors with an engaging and informative experience. Guides share the history, geology, wildlife and natural environment of the lava tubes and surrounding Gulf Savannah landscape.

Guides are provided with powered, self-contained accommodation located on Undara Road. If you have your own caravan or mobile home, there’s a dedicated space with plug in power and water access.

What We Are Looking For

We need team players with a positive, can-do attitude. Successful applicants will ideally have:

• A friendly and confident personality
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• An interest in geology, flora, fauna and local history
• The ability to deliver engaging and informative tours
• A willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays
• An LR Driver Licence
• A Queensland Driver Authorisation, or willingness to obtain one
• A current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one

Positions may be suitable for individuals or couples.
