The Undara Lava Tubes are a place like no other. They are the longest lava tube cave system in the world. The remnants of a volcanic eruption that started 190,000 years ago, when the Undara Volcano released enough lava to fill Sydney Harbour three times over.
This is a place where nature’s story is etched into stone. A vast underground network of lava tubes and tunnels, winding their way through and under the savannah grasslands. It’s a place to learn more about Australia’s geological past as you explore above and below the ground, with experienced guides pointing out key features of the tube system and surrounding landscape.
You’ll stand witness to the power of the lava flow, be mesmerised by the patterns and textures on the tube walls and learn how the plants and animals of the Gulf Savannah have integrated with this ancient formation.
Access to the Undara Lava Tubes is on guided tour only. Tours operate seasonally between May and October. There are a limited number of tours and guests each day. Book early to avoid disappointment.
