The Undara Lava Tubes and Cobbold Gorge are both in Outback Queensland’s Gulf Savannah country. Two natural treasures and geological wonders, providing two very different experiences. The Lava Tubes were formed by a volcanic eruption, while Cobbold Gorge is the result of movement in the earth’s crust and years of torrential downpours. Both are unique. Undara is the longest lava tube cave system in the world – Cobbold is Queensland’s youngest gorge and narrows to just 2 metres wide in places. Access to both is on guided tour only, to protect the places and ensure visitor safety.

The Undara Lava Tubes Tour is a 3 hour adventure, exploring the Archway caving system with its 3 lava tube formations and a surrounding tube, as well as taking in the savannah landscape. You’ll learn about the history and formation of the lava tubes, as well as interesting information on local flora and fauna. The 3 hour Cobbold Gorge Tour is a multi-faceted experience which includes transfers to and from Cobbold Village, a 1 hour boat cruise through the gorge and guided interpretive walk, up and over the escarpment and Glass Bridge.

Both tours require walking on sometimes uneven ground. A moderate level of fitness and mobility are required for both and you are required to wear covered walking shoes, a hat, sun safe clothing and sunscreen. Bring drinking water with you.

Your Savannah Way Adventure Pass includes 2 family friendly tours. It provides the very best value for money, not only saving you up to $24pp, but allowing you to experience the Gulf Savannah’s ultimate destinations – the Undara Lava Tubes and Cobbold Gorge. The following conditions apply:

• Offer available 1 May – 31 October 2025.
• Bookings made at least 7 days prior to first tour date required.
• Not to be used in conjunction with any other promotion or discount.
• There is a walking component on both tours, on clearly marked dirt tracks and boardwalks. There are also some steps and staircases.
• You are required to wear covered walking shoes, a hat, sun safe clothing and sunscreen. Bring a large and full water bottle.
• Access to Cobbold Gorge and the Undara Lava Tubes is by guided tour only.
• Pre-bookings essential and tours are subject to availability.
• Cobbold Gorge and the Undara Lava Tubes are both located in the Etheridge Shire, a part of the Gulf Savannah, but are geographically separated by some 234km of road.
• The 2 Savannah Way Adventure Pass tours are self-drive to the tour starting points, which are at the Undara Lava Tube Tours Departure Point 10kms along the Undara Road, and at Cobbold Village for Cobbold Gorge, via Forsayth. Transfers to and from the tubes and the gorge are provided and included in the rate.
