Charleston Dam is 5km from Forsayth and as well as providing the town’s water supply, it’s a hub for watersports enthusiasts, providing the perfect location for swimming, fishing, kayaking, boating, jet skis and SUP. The dam itself is substantial in size and home to several fish species, waterlilies and other aquatic life.
It’s also an important habitat for many local bird species, which are more frequently spotted in the early mornings and late afternoons. Some of the birds you might see here include herons, parrots, ducks, finches, cormorants, kingfishers, kites, eagles, kookaburras and more.
The road to Charleston Dam from Forsayth is sealed, and there is a boat ramp for convenient water access. Public facilities include two large, shaded picnic areas with table and chair seating and electric BBQs, as well as a toilet block and bins, which are all connected by sealed pathways with landscaping.
When you are visiting and/or staying at Forsayth, make sure you take the time to check out Charleston Dam, you’ll be glad you did.
